Buddha: the Great Departure

Buddha
© Yasuomi Ishito / Toei Animation © 2011 Toei & Tezuka Productions

A journey that changed a life. A life that changed history.

In the war-torn, caste-bound states of ancient India, two young men seek to discover the path out of suffering. This monumental film is an adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s landmark manga series of the same name, told through the eyes of Siddhartha, who will later become Buddha. Three-time winner of the Eisner Awards (the Oscars of the comic industry), the original manga is the product of 10 years of devoted work by Tezuka, the legendary creator of Astro Boy, and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
