Hajime Tsutsui is your typical Japanese salaryman. Devoted to his job and his company, he spends almost all of his waking hours at the office working toward his next promotion, leaving little time for his family. But everything changes for Hajime when a series of events cause him to become painfully conscious of his own mortality, as well as that of his family and friends around him. This realisation brings Hajime back to his lifelong dream of becoming a train driver on his local railway, and sparks a life-changing decision for both himself and his family.
