The Fallen Angel

© 2010 “Ningen Shikkaku” Film Partners

Based on the life of 20th-century literary wild child, Osamu Dazai.

Detached, self-destructive and mired in addictions, decadent artist Yozo Oba drifts in and out of women’s lives and drinking dens, dancing dangerously on the knife-edge between life and death. Adapted from an autobiographical novel by Osamu Dazai, Fallen Angel paints a portrait of one of the most famous – or infamous – figures in Japanese literary history, known almost as much for his scandalous private life as his highly influential works. Nostalgic sets and costumes flawlessly recreate the feel of pre-war, Showa-era Japan. Directed by film industry veteran Genjiro Arato, and starring Toma Ikuta (Honey and Clover, Hanamizuki) as rebel-without-a-cause Yozo Oba.
